What is a photocopier?

A photocopier makes duplicate copies of a physical document without being connected to a computer network. The primary function of a photocopier is to make a paper copy of a document. Most modern photocopiers use laser technology to do this, using an electrical charge to transfer toner to a piece of paper to create an image. The entire process can be explained in the video below.

How does a photocopier work?

To start the photocopy process in the photocopy machine, the top cover of the photocopy machine is opened. The master copy is placed face-down in the photocopy machine, where a bright light beam will scan the entire document. White areas of the paper reflect more light, while black areas reflect little or no light. As a result, an electric shadow of the photocopy is formed on the photoconductor. As a result, the negatively charged toner patches adhere to the electric shadow and an ink print of the master copy is produced on the conveyor belt.

A blank paper is fed into the photocopier from the other side of the photocopier, moving idly onto the photoconductor belt. As it impacts the conveyor belt, a strong positive charge is communicated. The strong positive demand on the blank paper pulls the negatively charged toner patches towards themselves. Accordingly, a duplicate image of the master copy is made on blank paper.

Finally, just before the paper is stuck, a fuser unit (a pair of hot breakers) toasts and supplies pressure, so the toner patches are permanently attached/fused to the paper. As a result, a freshly extracted duplicate copy is relatively warm to the touch.
